Amoxycillin can treat various infections such as infection of ears, throat, nose, and skin, etc. It helps to treat stomach and intestinal ulcers. It destroys the bacterial cell walls and eradicates them. The growth of bacteria is reduced by taking this medicine as prescribed by the doctor. It cannot treat infections caused by viruses such as viral flu. It is recommended in the case of dental problems, bronchitis, and tonsillitis.

Amoxycillin Dosage

The dosage of Amoxycillin varies with the type of infection, age, the severity of infection and health condition. It can be given to children to treat different infections. It can be taken with or without food. Usually, the dosage is taken after every eight or twelve hours. The capsules are found in 250 mg and 500mg, tablets are available in 500mg and 875 mg, chewable tablets are found in 125mg, 200mg, 250mg and 400mg and powder suspension are available in 125mg/5ml, 200mg/5ml, 250mg/5ml and 400mg/5ml.

Amoxycillin Side Effects

You should see a doctor if there is any side effect of the medicine. The Amoxycillin side effects are,

  • Diarrhea: It is a loose and watery stool. It dehydrates your body and makes you weak. Immediate doctor’s help should be taken in case of dehydration.
  • Nausea: It is the sensation to vomit.
  • Itching: It can be at any part of the body even in your private parts. Ask your doctor about this.
  • Rashes: There can be abnormal skin color or inflammation. Stop using the medicine and ask your doctor.
  • Abdominal pain: It is the pain that is felt between the diaphragm and the pelvic region.
  • Difficulty in breathing: If you find any difficulty in breathing then stop the medicine and report to the nearest emergency center.
  • Dizziness: It means feeling faint, weak or unsteady.

Amoxycillin suspension comes in powder form and it is mixed with distilled water before serving. The prepared suspension needs to be stored in the refrigerator. The refrigerated suspension works effectively. The powdered form of suspension has an expiration date of nearly two years but once the suspension is prepared with water, it should be discarded within 14 days.

The tablets and capsules can be stored in room temperature. It also has an expiration date of nearly two years.

Never take expired amoxycillin because its effectiveness degrades after expiration. Its smell, color or taste may change after the expiration date.
